An Old Friend

Good morning from my studio in East Nashville. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day holiday, and that we all remembered the reason for the day. It’s a beautiful day here in the East, and I hope everyone is well.

This is a portrait i don’t believe I’ve ever shared before, or if I have, it’s been years ago. When I thought about posting this I looked at the back and saw I painted it in 2012, so it goes back a ways. This is my Buddy. I lost him a couple of years before I was able to paint him. I can’t believe he has been gone that long, because to me his memory is as fresh as yesterday.

Buddy was a rescue; I found him as a tiny puppy under a school bus. He was part Pyrenees, part Border Collie, about 80 pounds, as smart as could be. He as a character. He loved to ride in the car and stick his head out the window and flirt with girls in other cars. Seriously, if we stopped at a traffic light and there was a cute girl in the car next to us, he would woof at them, and smile (yes, he could smile) and act all cute. It was hilarious and he just loved doing it.

He was one of those dogs with which we humans sometimes have a connection that defies explanation or description. I need to stop typing because something is in my eyes and I can’t see the screen.

Thank you for looking; have a great day and stay safe and well.
