Tomato Art Festival News
Good morning from my studio in East Nashville. I’m later than usual this morning because I finally got my car back after two and a half weeks in the shop to get the air conditioner repaired. Not the dealership’s fault, really; had to wait for a part to get in. Supply chain issues are still affecting a lot of things.
Anyway, I was very honored to be chosen as “Best of Show” in the 2022 Tomato Art Show. I was totally surprised; seems like the pieces I don’t think well of always do well with others. I think I must have poor taste, or something.
This photo does not do the real painting justice. I set out to do multiple glaze layers, and got carried away to the point I don’t know exactly how many layers are on there, but I’m sure it’s at least 15. The effect from the real painting is that the tomatoes virtually glow. That is probably what drew the judges’ eye. The title, by the way, is “Imperfect,” and the back story is that these were the first two tomatoes to come off my plants this year. All around cool.
Thanks for looking. Stay safe and well.
