A New Pet Portrait

Good morning from East Nashville. Things have been buzzing in my studio lately, in a good way. I’ve been able to alternate between houses and pets for the last few weeks, and it’s been nice to have a variety in subjects and approaches. By that I mean the two kinds of portraits take very different techniques. The pets are a lot looser, the houses are very precise. So it’s fun to be able to go back and forth. Here’s Louis, which I just delivered last night as a birthday present. He’s such a cute guy, carrying his little toy. I loved painting his eyes; they are just so expressive. I always do the eyes first, because that way I can find out their “personality” and get a real feeling for who they are. And, yes, dogs (and cats) do have individual and unique “personalities.” If you’ve never had the kind of relationship with a pet where you know who they are, you’ve missed something really wonderful.Anyway, thanks for looking, enjoy, and stay safe and well.
