Spring In The Air

Good morning from my studio in East Nashville. Hope everyone is doing well this fine morning. I saw a statement a few days ago that we are in the Spring of Deception. This will be followed by Third Winter, then the Pollenning. I thought that was pretty accurate. Nothing quite like the weather in Middle Tennessee.

I’m deep into the new portrait commission process. I’ve got at least three layers on all four; never quite know how many layers a painting will take, but I know there will be several more on each painting. The layering – or glazing – process is somewhat time consuming, but the end result is so worth the time. The way the light moves in the layers can make the painting almost glow. I would like to take credit for this process, but it was actually developed by Da Vinci centuries ago. X-ray analysis of the Mona Lisa revealed there are forty (40) layers on her! That’s one reason she has remained a touchstone for all this time.

In the meantime, here’s one from the gallery. This is Gracie. I always say this is a beautiful pup, but again, I’ve never seen a dog that wasn’t beautiful.

Let me know if I can create a painting for you. Thanks for looking and have a great week.
