Countdown to Christmas

Good morning from my studio in East Nashville. Just a couple of weeks from Christmas, and I’m working on finishing six more portrait presents. Since I work by applying thin layers, and the paintings have to dry overnight between layers, I have something of an assembly line going on. I’ll add a layer to one, set it aside to dry, add a layer to another, set it aside to dry, and so on. I actually enjoy working this way; it keeps me from overworking a piece and helps me see things anew when the next layer goes on. I expect to have all these finished in plenty of time for Christmas.

Here’s one from a couple of months back. This is Chevy. He was a very beautiful boy and a pleasure to paint. Of course, I think all my subjects are beautiful. (Hopefully the paintings do them justice.)
